NAVIGATION PAC PLUS
by Steven Woas
This is a commercial program for doing celestial
navigation. It works on all IBM compatible computers.
This is not a shareware or public domain program.
Celestial Navigaion is a dying art. But lorans and GPSs
often die, too. The prudent sailor takes a sextant along
and learns how to use it. Celestial Navigation is also
fun. Here is a software program that has built in
almanac data for the sun and 57 stars until the year
2000. It contains the following programs:
1. Sun & Star Reduction (with almanac).
2. Sight Reduction (all bodies)
3. Two body fix
4. Dead Reckoning
5. Great Circle Sailing
6. Rhumb-Line Sailing
7. Location of 57 Stars
8. Star Identification
Navigation Pac Plus comes with an 18 page manual which
has sample problems. This package is not designed to
teach celestial navigation. You need to be familiar with
the navigation jargon. It is for actually doing
navigation at sea. However, it can be of considerable
help when learning navigation and star identification if
used in conjunction with other classes and/or books.
Please specify disk size (5 1/4 inch or 3 1/2 inch) when
ordering. The price of Navigation Pac Plus is $29.95
(postpaid).

Author's footnote:
In 1982, I wrote a book titled, Self-Steering Without A
Windvane. This book shows how to make a sailboat (with
a tiller) self-steer using all kinds of sheet-to-tiller
arrangements. It was first published by Seven Seas Press.
In those days I used the pen name Lee Woas. The book was
also published in Great Britain by Adlard Coles Limited
in 1983.
Today the book is out of print and now I have the rights.
It has a over 100 drawings and photographs.
Natural and sheet-to-tiller methods have served me well.
I sailed a 28-foot Pearson Trition sloop (Carl Alberg
design) single-handedly from Florida to St. Barthelemy,
French Antilles, and back, relying solely on natural and
sheet-to-tiller systems. Since then I used these methods
to sail to Mexico on other boats. People have crossed
oceans using this book.
If there is enough interest I may decide to produce the book
on disk or CD-ROM. If you are interested, please write or FAX
to express your interest. PLEASE DO NOT USE OUR ORDERS ONLY
800 NUMBER.
